Hampton Roads Executive Airport is pleased the announce the anticipated opening of its new executive terminal building in February 2011. Construction on the new $2,000,000 terminal facility was begun in the spring of 2010.
The contemporary building features vast glass windows in its spacious passenger lobby for great air traffic viewing, a patio for outdoor seating, conference room, and state-of-the-art services for pilots and crew. The construction also includes new access and turn-around for automobile traffic. Funding for this terminal was provided by the DOAV and the owners of the airport, Virginia Aviation Associates.
The new terminal is linked to the original terminal building by a walkway. The Blue Skies Grille and “Time to Fly” pilot shop will continue to operate in the original terminal building, which will also be converted to office use. Hampton Roads Executive Airport positively impacts the local community through its support of aviation businesses based at the airport – flight schools, aerial photography, aviation maintenance and avionics, banner tow operations, corporate and business aviation activities, and recreational aviation.
Additional projects include new hangar buildings and the extremely exciting runway expansion project which will lengthen the runway from 4000 feet to 5350 feet. It is expected that this project will begin shortly after the new year.
Hampton Roads Executive Airport is a public use, privately owned reliever airport that is centrally located at the intersection of I-64, I-664, I-264 and Route 58.
